This section of the documentation will provide you with a number of basic How Tos to help you leverage the full power of Remote Buddy.

How do I switch to another Behaviour?
- Press the menu button to open the Remote Buddy menu.
- Press the "left" (<<) button on the remote to go up one level in the menu. Hold it to go straight to the upmost menu level.
- From there, navigate in the menu and select another Behaviour of your choice.
How do I change the action assigned to a button?
- Locate the small Remote Buddy icon in your main screen's title bar.
- Click on it and select Preferences from the dropdown menu.
- In the Preferences window, click on Mapping.
- Locate the Behaviour you want to change the button mapping of in the list of Behaviours on the left and click on it.
- In the button/action list in the middle, click on the action you want to replace and then select the new action you want to assign to the button from the popup menu.
How do I build my own, simple, customized menu?
- Locate the small Remote Buddy icon in your main screen's title bar.
- Click on it and select Preferences from the dropdown menu.
- In the Preferences window, click on Menu.
- Now, in the bottom, left click on "+" to create and name your own profile.
- You can now drag and drop menu elements from the left "Item Library" to the right: your new menu.
How do I add a file browser to a menu or context menu?
- In Preferences > Menu, select the entry of the menu layout you want to edit on the left.
- Drag and drop the folder you want to create a file browser for from the Finder to the desired location in the menu.
How do I execute my own AppleScript or keystroke on a button press?
- Locate the small Remote Buddy icon in your main screen's title bar.
- Click on it and select Preferences from the dropdown menu.
- In the Preferences window, click on Mappings.
- Locate the Behaviour you want to change the button mapping of in the list of Behaviours on the left and click on it.
- In the button/action list in the middle, click on the action you want to replace with your own action, then select "Custom actions" from the popup menu.
- You can now compile your own action with any number of actors - which can contain AppleScript, keystrokes and many other events.
How do I add a global action I can use everywhere?
- Locate the small Remote Buddy icon in your main screen's title bar.
- Click on it and select Behaviour Construction Kit from the dropdown menu.
- Press the "+" button below the list on the left.
- Name your action, then check the "Action globally available" (this is the key part for a global action).
- Click on "Implementation" and implement your action.
- You can now select your action anywhere for mapping everywhere. Find it in the Miscellaneous category of the popup.
How do I create my own Behaviour?
- Locate the small Remote Buddy icon in your main screen's title bar.
- Click on it and select Behaviour Construction Kit from the dropdown menu.
- Create the actions your Behaviour shall contain. Provide titles (i.e. "Toggle fullscreen") and titles on hold (i.e. "Hold to toggle fullscreen") as well as a groupname (i.e. "SomePlayerApp") for all of your actions. Clicking on "Implementation", you can compile your actions from all available actors.
- Once you have finished creating your actions, click on "Behaviour Factory" in the toolbar.
- Drag the application you want to create the Behaviour for from the Finder on the list on the left.
- Check the metadata. I.e. if you want a Behaviour to turn up in "Audio & Video" rather than "Applications" in the menu, enter "top.multimedia" in the menu address field.
- Switch to the "Actions" tab. There, drag all actions your Behaviour shall contain from the list on the left to the list on the right.
- Switch to the "Default mapping" tab. You can choose actions that should be activated on special events there as well as define how your actions will be premapped to buttons by default. The mapping you define for the Apple® Remote defines the default for all remotes you do not define anything for.
- Locate the gears item at the lower left of the window and select "Compile and testdrive Scripted Behaviour" to test your Behaviour.
- Once you have finished development, select "Compile, testdrive and permanently install Scripted Behaviours".

How do I jump right to the main menu level when pressing the menu key?
- Locate the small Remote Buddy icon in your main screen's title bar.
- Click on it and select Preferences from the dropdown menu.
- In the Preferences window, click on Mappings.
- Select "global mapping" in the list on the left.
- In the button/action list in the middle, click on the action "Open Remote Buddy menu" and select "Open Remote Buddy menu at main menu level" instead.
How do set up the AJAX Remote?
- After downloading and starting Remote Buddy, click on its icon in the menubar and select "Preferences".
- In the toolbar, click on "AJAX Remote", then activate the checkbox in front of "Enable AJAX Remote".
- Now set a password for the AJAX Remote.
- You can now open the AJAX Remote in the browser on your iPhone™/iPod® Touch. Therefore, please enter the listed URLs: the Bonjour® URL first, then the Ethernet/AirPort® ones.
